who we are

About Cromwell Black

Welcome to the House where complexity becomes understanding, action, and influence.

For years, Cromwell Black was known for one thing: a boutique house

for literary fiction. That's still true and remains at the heart of CBPH's

DNA; but it is no longer the only part of the story.

Since 2015, Cromwell Black is the home enterprise of Luis Fernando

Herrera Ugalde (LuiFer): creative director, author, chief editor,

publisher, bilingual sales leader and AI-fluent educator who has spent

nearly three decades learning how people are actually persuaded,

trained, and moved to act. The literary work remains;

Toro Blanco, Singularity, Noah and the Olive Branch, and a dozen

more titles. But what began as an imprint is now a platform: for

training, consulting, teaching, and publishing alike. One conviction

runs through all of it.

The through-line: communication that produces
results

Communication isn't decoration added at the end of the work.

It is the work. It's translation under pressure; converting expert knowledge, organizational complexity, and competing interests into a message an ordinary, busy person can understand, trust, and act on in ninety seconds.

Solving the $1.2 Trillion per year, compounding problem

Get it wrong and it costs you, literally. According to a 2022 Grammarly and Harris Poll research study, poor workplace communication drains U.S. business an estimated $1.2 trillion a year; roughly $12,500 per employee, hidden inside rework, delay, stalled deals, and disengaged teams (note: this number has likely only increased since 2022). Get it right and it compounds: every audience you reach cleanly trusts you faster the next time. Rule number one for getting out of a hole is to stop digging, a lesson most businesses have not taken to heart, according to these findings.

Start here: CLEAR ADVANTAGE®

CLEAR ADVANTAGE: 21st-Century Business Communication® is the flagship; a textbook and cohort course built on a method you can run on any real message:

Decode → Design → Deliver → Demonstrate.

Most communication training stops at "send and hope." This one isn't finished until there's evidence the message landed. Over six to eight weeks, your people stop writing for themselves and start translating for the people they need to move; executives, customers, engineers, frontline staff, the skeptic in the room. The payoff is measurable: faster decisions, fewer clarifying email threads, deals that close because the value finally reads.

If your team sends emails no one acts on, decks that lose the room, or updates that spark the exact panic they meant to prevent; this is the fix, and it pays for itself in reclaimed hours. And because it's delivered fully in English or Spanish, it fits LATAM firms reaching north and nearshore operations reaching south equally well; the North–South communication gap is exactly what it's built to close.

Why me, and why now

Twenty-five-plus years in sales and enablement, in business since 1997 (LinkedIn). A Master's in AI for Business (96.1%) from Aden Business School, an executive AI diploma from George Washington University, and a Bachelor's degree in Marketing & Sales from Rochat School of Business. Enterprise roles at Qualfon, HP and Granicus building the exact training that revenue teams run on. Years as a Learning & Development specialist coaching people one-to-one. A dozen-plus published titles under Cromwell Black. Fully, culturally bilingual, English and Spanish, working both sides of the North–South business divide.

And as of August 2026 I've returned to Rochat School of Business, no longer as a student, but now as Adjunct Professor; the newest credential in addition to everything above. I have always been marked by a calling to teach, to instruct, to elucidate. That's what's behind my sales leadership, training and enablement work. And it is what defines me as a writer: tackling elusive and often thorny subjects with homespun wisdom and ease. Going from enigma to parable, from theory to story, relatable to the everyman. Some of us are born professors.

That combination; enterprise sales, formal teaching, published authorship, cultural-bilingual fluency, hands-on AI savvy and formal credentials, all with nearly three-decades' combined experience; is not rare in one person: but rather entirely unique to LuiFer. It's the whole reason this work lands where a stock textbook or a generic trainer cannot: I've done it on both sides of the divide, and I teach it because I live it daily.

Let's talk — now, not "someday"

The cost of unclear communication is already on your books; you just haven't seen the invoice yet. The teams that fix it this quarter get the compounding advantage. The ones who wait keep paying interest on every muddled message, every re-sent email, every deal that simply stalls out. The true objection was never deciphered. The actual deadline, conveniently ignored. Lost in a sea of words, your team focused on the text and not the subtext. Failing to read between the lines, the deal went to a competitor who did.

I'm not looking to solve all your problems and would never make such an irresponsible statement (to pretend that I could). Yet I am a world-class master at identifying and solving one, a crucial, career-defining one: your ability to cleanly, clearly, effectively and in a timely manner communicate with clients, stakeholders and all relevant parties to bring about the outcome you and your organization desire. I have a proven track record of delivering on this one metric.

I have the rare privilege of approaching language and messaging not just as a life-long salesman and learning & development coach, but perhaps more importantly, as a novelist and long-form writer. In today's break-neck business climate, most have neither the time nor desire to get through 'a novel.' Pressingly, most now have been conditioned on short-form video content to quickly jump from topic to topic, from one subject to the next, reaching micro-decisions in record time. My experience draws on the novels and translates them to mini-clips (when necessary), and vice versa. That's the talent and granular-level understanding you'd be putting on retainer.

So if you have a cohort to train, a message that has to land, a manuscript to finish, or a communication problem that's imperceptibly costing you real money: reach out today. First conversations are direct, candid and always on the House.
